Fruitloops: Serial Killers of Color
E98: Elifasi Msomi

E98: Elifasi Msomi

October 29, 2020

This week, Wendy & Beth discuss Elifasi Msomi, who between 1953 and 1955, hacked 15 people to death in the valleys of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. He said he was driven by an evil being known as the tokoloshe.

We share some listeners letters (4:37), dive into some stats (12:15), followed by a deep dive into the setting of South Africa (13:20).  Then we get into Msomi’s early life and the lore of the tokoloshe (31:00), the timeline (40:50), and the investigation & arrest (43:42).  We talk about "Where are they now?"(47:31), our Take Aways and what we think made Msomi snap (48:58).

As usual we close out the show with some tips on how not to get murdered (53:45) and we wrap up with some shout outs (57:27).

Thanks for listening! This is a weekly podcast and new episodes drop every Thursday, so until next time... look alive y’all, it's crazy out there!

https://www.safewise.com/blog/what-to-do-when-an-intruder-is-in-your-home/

If there is an intruder in your home:

  1. Quickly verify their presence
  2. Stay calm
  3. Determine if you can escape
  4. Stay put if you can’t escape
  5. Call the police
  6. Keep quiet and follow instructions
  7. Take notes immediately afterward

Humanize yourself: If the unthinkable happens and you are taken against your will, do what you can to humanize yourself in the eyes of your attacker. Studies show that it is difficult for many assailants to commit violence against victims who they view as people. Do not grovel, beg or become hysterical. This behavior makes it easier for the attacker to view you as a weak animal. Try not to cry. Talk about your family and try to form some sort of bond with your attacker.

You may want to consider taking a self-defense class.

E93: The Atlanta Child Murders Pt 2

E93: The Atlanta Child Murders Pt 2

September 24, 2020

The Atlanta Child Murders Part Two. Between 1979 and 1981, children and teenagers were disappearing off the streets of Atlanta, later turning up dead, terrifying the entire city. At least 28 people in the Atlanta area, most of them young black boys and teenagers, were kidnapped and murdered. Wayne Williams was convicted of two of the murders. Was he guilty of those, or of any of the other murders? Was there another killer or killers who got away with murder?

We wrap up the timeline and head on in to the investigation and arrest (8:40). We also get into some theories about the case (57:45) and our dueling take aways (106:06).  As usual we close out the show with some tips on how not to get murdered and some shout outs.

Thanks for listening! This is a weekly podcast and new episodes drop every Thursday, so until next time... look alive guys, it's crazy out there!

E92: The Atlanta Child Murders Pt 1

E92: The Atlanta Child Murders Pt 1

September 17, 2020

Today we are talking about the Atlanta Child Murders. Between 1979 and 1981, children and teenagers were disappearing off the streets of Atlanta, later turning up dead, terrifying the entire city. At least 28 people in the Atlanta area, most of them young black boys and teenagers, were kidnapped and murdered.

This case is complicated. So to do it justice, we felt we had to turn it into a two parter. We encourage you to check out our show notes for additional information about the case. And we welcome our listeners to be a part of the conversation on Facebook or Twitter @ fruitloopspod or email us at frutloopspod@gmail.com

We dive into the Stats (13:24), the setting (16:12), the convicted killer's early life (32:20) and the timeline (39:36).  As usual we close out the show with some tips on how not to get murdered (103:25) and some shout outs (108:15).

Thanks for listening! This is a weekly podcast and new episodes drop every Thursday, so until next time... look alive guys, it's crazy out there!
